The Lord's Fire

"Why are we so quick to rid ourselves of pain?  It is often the refining fire of our Lord. Before we flee the furnace, let us first make sure it is the hand of the Lord that leads us out.  Remember, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego?  It was the Lord who lead them to the fire, it was the Lord who was with them in it, and it was the Lord who led them out, unscathed and set free."

Good evening . . .

. . . friends, the blog might be a bit quiet these next few weeks as wedding planning (for a newly engaged couple I know;) has me busy.  I'm going to leave you with one of my favorite recent finds, as far as quotes go.

"The trial ahead of you, is never as great as the power behind you."

Baby A. : Portrait Session // Freeport, IL

She's definitely a mama's girl.  In fact her mother and grandmother really deserve half of the credit for all the darling cuteness below because it was they who kept her smiling and happy for my camera. :)  Thank you!

I'm so glad I got to work with this little doll.  Her big blue eyes are stunning and she's just a little sweetie.

Thought For The Day

"Faithful is He Who calls you, and He will bring it to pass"
~ 1  Thessalonians 5:24

"It is true, as Martin Luther says, 'His doom is sure' and 'One little word will fell him,'  but the fight is not a charade.  We are not playing war games.  The guns are loaded,  The stakes are high.  And our only hope is to live and fight not by our own strength, but by, and for, faith in future grace."

- John Piper, Future Grace

His grace is sufficient.  His power made perfect in weakness.

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. :)  There's so much to be thankful for!  In my own life, when it comes to photography, I'm grateful for:

  • The opportunity to purchase my first DSLR camera
  • The times a fellow photographer has lent me gear, enabling me to play around with new equipment as well as get some practice in.
  • Katie Evans at Key to Picture - for her support and teaching
  • The grace of God enabling, providing, and blessing me on this journey I've taken into the art of photography
  • The kind souls who have posed for my camera this year

On a more personal level, I'm grateful for . . .

. . . my family

. . . which includes my fun siblings . . .

. . . and this little sweet heart
whom I've gotten to spend countless days with
ever since she was a very little girl.

These are just a few of the things I have to be grateful for.  I could go on, because there are more blessings, like my incredible church family, but I'm stopping for now. :)   I'd love to hear some of the things that you're grateful for this Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my readers and may you be blessed to see the grace and goodness of God in your lives today!

Mr. F. : Portrait Session

He was a rather unlikely candidate for my camera but my brother introduced me to him and he did turn into a rather interesting subject.  Meet Mr. F. . .

It was a pleasure to meet you Mr. F.

A New Road

Some of you may remember the "Aim & Fire Friday" posts that I did on here a few times.  Needless to say, they weren't a hit with me or my readers (that I know of), but that's okay, because I've decided to try something new on Fridays!  From now on you can expect to find an inspirational/thought-filled post here on Fridays.  I enjoy photography, but good quotes and writing my own thoughts are some things I like too.  I'd love your feedback (as always;) and be sure to check back this Friday for the first post with this new theme.

A New Look!

Hey there folks, I've got a new look on here!

I was recently informed that using Google images was illegal so the old header had to go.  Along with the new header, you'll find various aspects of the blog updated and you may see a few more minor changes take place over the next few days.  Let me know what you think of the updates and for reference, here are the two headers contrasted.

Key To Pictures : Review

Today I'd like to tell ya'll about gal I met via cyber world, some months back, who has been very helpful to me in my journey to becoming a better photographer. Meet Katie Evans who runs a subscription based website called Key To Pictures and has authored the book "The Key To Taking Pictures Like A Professional Photographer" (as well as some e-books).  Having since signed up as a member on her site I have been so blessed by her amazing support.  She has a positive attitude, is excited about helping us, and does a great job keeping us on our toes. :)  If you are a beginning photographer I'd definitely encourage you to check her out at http://keytopicture.com/

P.S. Watch this video review I did for her recently to hear what I have to say about her.

Photoberfest : Week 3

It's already week three in the Photoberfest challenge!  That means this month is drawing to a close and cold November will be upon us all.  What about winter are you looking forward too? Somethings that I enjoy about the winter season are being cozy inside our home, the warm glow of lamps in the evening, and eating yummy soups.

Until next time, here are some picture that I took for the challenge. :)

Photoberfest : Week 1

I recently jumped into a challenge to take a photo a day for the month of October.  The idea came from Katie Evans of Key To Pictures and she gave us an assignment for each day of the month.  I'm enjoying the challenge thus far and thought I'd post my work here for ya'll.  Enjoy!

Someone You Love

I liked this photo for the theme because it shows the concept of "the two shall become one".
And this is someone I love. :)

Anderson Japanese Gardens

I  had never visited the Anderson Japanese Gardens before but last Thursday we took a surprise trip out to Rockford for my little sister's birthday and it was the first stop on the list. They were beautiful!  Our entire family (which includes four guys) enjoyed strolling along the paths, feeding the coy, and discovering the different areas of the gardens.

Of course, my photographer's eye was happy with all the beauty and I'd love to go back some day to enjoy it all again!

Before we started out we were given a map to make our way around the twelve acres of garden

This is one of their wedding venues
